Mann+Hummel, a popular name in the field of development and manufacturing of original equipment (OE) to the international automotive and mechanical engineering industries has recently been conferred with yet another award. This time around, the honor comes in the form of the MATERIALICA Design and Technology Award for the use of bio-based plastics in the engine compartment.

The Eco-friendly bio-polyamide air cleaner for the air filtration system is manufactured by Mann+Hummel, while the polyamide used for the filter is supplied by BASF. It consists of approximately 60% sebacine acid which is obtained from castor oil. This won Mann+Hummel the ‘Best of Material’ award, which was presented to the OEM by Munich Expo Veranstaltungs GmbH. On receiving this accolade, Dr. Findeisen (Head of Products, Processes and Materials Competence Centre) said, ‘This is the second award we have received for our investigations into the use of bio-based plastics, following the ‘VDI Award for Innovative Application of Plastics’. It makes us very proud.’
