The upcoming Mahindra XUV100, codenamed the S101, has been spotted by Indian Autos Blog reader rjrohra. Captured during what seems like a commercial ad shoot, the pseudo crossover’s rear three quarters have been completely revealed.

The XUV100’s stance is that of a compact, yet voluminous hatchback. However, traces of body cladding on the lower half of the car say something else. The rear haunch features a prominent character line, which cuts an arch over the rear wheel arch flare line. The petal shaped tail lamps look contemporary, whereas the flush fitting rear bumper has been effectively designed to keep overall vehicle length less than 4 meters. The latter also features a plastic trim running across, which hosts the registration plate recess flanked by reflectors.

Other visible features include alloy wheels, a rear wash/wipe function, roof rails, hidden rear door handles (not so much, because the dull silver trimmed surround gives it away) and an integrated rear spoiler. The front end is still under wraps. The interiors will claim a set of unique features too; to see undisguised interior images of the Mahindra XUV100, click here.

Built around an all-new monocoque platform, the XUV100 will feature a front wheel drive layout and will be powered by a choice of one petrol and one diesel engine. While petrol power is expected to come from a new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine co-developed by SsangYong, diesel torque is likely to come from the 1.5-cylinder diesel engine borrowed from the TUV300. Transmission options should include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

The XUV100 will be launched in the third week of January, and compete across segments; with primary competition coming from the Ford EcoSport, while lower variants could even eat into a few B-Segment hatchback sales.
