Bajaj is all set to add two more variants to its commuter motorcycle family, the Discover, at an event in Mumbai. The two new motorcycles, Discover 150S and a semi-faired version 150F are scheduled for a launch at 12:00 noon today. These new Discover models would be the most powerful variants in the Discover series. With these two new variants, Bajaj’s Discover family will grow to a total of eight motorcycles.

Powering these two new variants would be a newly developed 145cc 4-stroke 4-valve unit. The company has remained silent about the power figures. We expect the power on these new Discover variants to be tad lower than that of the Pulsar 150. Other features include front disc brake, MRF Nylogrip Zapper tyres and a monoshock suspension setup at the back.

New variants of the Discover would be targeted to the cost conscious audience who are willing to buy a 150cc motorcycle but at a lower price tag.

We would be covering the launch event live and this post would be updated in real time so stay tuned into Motoroids for latest news of the Bajaj Discover.

Engine and performance

The new Bajaj Discover 150S and 150F are powered by a 145cc 4-valve single-cylinder DTS-i with ExhausTEC engine that churns out 14.5 PS of power and 12.75Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 5-speed transmission. Bajaj claims that the new Discover 150 has a top speed of 110 kph. The Discover 150 series also gets a monoshock rear suspension with nitrox and tubeless tyres. Bajaj has also loaded the Discover 150 series with digital meters, petal disc brakes and DC lighting for consistent bright light event at low speeds. The fuel tank can store upto 10 litre of fuel (1.9 litre usable reserve). Bajaj also claims a CVRM mileage of 72 kmpl.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of Bajaj Discover 150, Eric Vas, President of Motorcycle Business said, “The newly launched Discover 150 breaks the monotony and drudgery of daily commute by providing the rider with a reserve of power to enjoy his ride. Its advance 4 valve 145cc DTS-i engine deliver a class leading 14.5 Ps power and CVRM mileage of 72 kmpl, the new Discover 150 will appeal to those who value the time spent during their daily commute on their bikes.”

Looks and Design

The new Discover 150F shares its styling cues from the 125ST except for the addition of the new fairing. The seat on the 150F, unlike the step seat of the 125ST, seems to have less cushioning for the pillion. The sticker set on the 150F are new but what catches the attention is the 3D logo of the Discover brand that shines on the fuel tank. The side panel comes in the body colour as oppose to 125ST’s silver panel. The pillion grab rails are black in colour.

Instruments

The instrument cluster is a completely new unit which seems premium than the ones found on current generation Discover motorcycles. Although the speedometer remains analogue, the ODO, trip meter, and fuel meter have gone digital. The digital display also houses a clock. There is also a faulty/low battery indicator to report any problems. Other components include neutral gear indicator.
