It isn’t yet known if the Lamborghini Urus SUV will ever make it to production. However, what is sure is that the Italian performance car maker will come up with a plug-in hybrid variant in case the exotic SUV makes it to the car market.

The Volkswagen Group, owners of Lamborghini, recently gave the green signal to the new Bentley Falcon crossover that will come with a plug in hybrid variant. Now, there are very good chances that the Urus will be developed alongside the Falcon and both the future crossovers will share cost-intensive components between them. These components will also be shared with some of the future Audi models.

Powering the Urus plug-in hybrid will be a V8 engine paired with electric motors for a total power output of near about 670 hp. According to Lamborghini CEO. Stephan Winkelmann, the Urus will be underpinned by the same modular platform that has been developed for the next-generation Audi Q7. However, the Urus will have a shorter wheelbase than that of the new Q7.

“For its mission and packaging, Urus is the perfect solution. It anticipates the near future, primarily when it comes to consider the current and upcoming limitations in some markets,” said Winkelmann in a recent interview. “Our plug-In hybrid cuts on [fuel] consumption and emissions but will do it with smaller engines.”
