The Kia brand has made a name in the Indian market. With its first two cars; Seltos and Sonet, Kia offered a completely new set of features and thus, made a foothold in the market. Ever since the brand has been looking forward to expanding its portfolio. The brand has finally announced a date for the debut of its three-row MPV, codenamed ‘Kia KY’. The test mules of the MPV have been spotted on the road many times. The official reveal of the Kia KY 7-seater MPV will be on the 16th of December.
What we know so far
The car will be based on the same platform as the Seltos. While the test mules of the KY were completely covered, we could still make out a few nitty-gritty details of the car. It gets some solid lines along with the fenders. We also get to see a sunroof on the car. Being an MPV, the car is longer than the Seltos, with a slightly longer wheelbase.
The rear door seems to be a little larger for easier access to the third row. Kia also claims that the third row of this car will be usable thanks to the adequate legroom on offer. Unlike the Seltos, KY has a taller roofline that helps it offer better headroom for the third row. The rear of the car looks bulky and stretched out, which should result in improved cabin space. There is a rumor going on that suggests that the car might be christened as Carens. Like every other Kia, the Carens will come loaded to the brim with features.
Being based on the Seltos, we expect to see the same 1.5L petrol and diesel engine. While the petrol puts out 113HP of power and 144Nm of torque, the turbocharged diesel puts out 113HP and 250Nm of torque. These engines will be coupled with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. We expect it to sit around the same price as its rivals, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 or the Hyundai Alcazar. Expect the launch to be at a later date in 2022.
