A Greener Step Forward for Indian Tyre Industry
JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has rolled out India’s first passenger car tyre built using ISCC Plus certified sustainable raw materials. Called the UX Royale Green, this eco-conscious tyre has entered production at the company’s Chennai plant. This move marks a major shift in India’s tyre manufacturing scene, aligning it closer to circular economy practices and reducing the sector’s carbon footprint.
The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC Plus) confirms that the tyre incorporates traceable, responsibly sourced materials. The UX Royale Green consists of up to 80% renewable, recycled, or bio-based materials—such as bio-attributed polymers, renewable oils, recycled rubber powder, and recovered carbon black. Even the polyester and steel wire used in the tyre have been sourced under sustainable practices.

Backed by a Decade of R&D
The UX Royale Green isn’t a one-day wonder. JK Tyre’s Global Tech Centre has been working on alternative materials for over ten years, aiming to replace petroleum-based components without compromising safety or performance. The result is a product that meets both environmental and road safety benchmarks, thanks to rigorous evaluation and field testing.
JK Tyre is also no stranger to firsts. It pioneered radial technology in India back in 1977 and was the first tyre company globally to receive ISO 9001 certification for its entire operation in 1995.
Standing Out in the Market
While many tyre brands are just beginning to explore greener manufacturing, JK Tyre has made a concrete move with a product already in production. The UX Royale Green enters a market that’s slowly waking up to sustainability, giving JK a noticeable edge. That said, it will be interesting to see how competitors like MRF, Apollo, and CEAT respond.
