That the Jeep vehicles are headed to India is a very well known fact. It is also pretty known that a handful of Jeep vehicles have already reached Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility and are being tested in various road and climatic conditions that our country has to offer.
It seems like Fiat India is almost done with rigorously testing the Jeep cars on Indian tarmac and the test vehicles are known to have clocked almost 2 lakh kms on our roads. The testing is required to fine tune the vehicles as per Indian road conditions.
The Jeep Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee were recently spotted at a Fiat service centre in Chennai. Both the Jeep Wrangler Sport and Wrangler Unlimited have been spotted undergoing some check-ups at the service centre. Also spotted were two examples of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, a pre facelift and the 2014 Grand Cherokee facelift.
For Indian market, the Jeep Wrangler will come with a 2.8L diesel motor with 197 bhp on tap. The Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, will come with a more powerful 3.0L oil burner with a max power output rated at 247 bhp.
Fiat India is likely to first launch the Grand Cherokee in Indian market, with the Wrangler SUV following in few months of time. Both these cars will be brought to us via CBU route. While the Wrangler will be priced close to INR 30 lakhs, the Grand Cherokee will come with a sticker price of around INR 45 lakhs.
