Spero E Bike Round

India’s first crowdfunded electric bike, Spero E-Bike, set to make a comeback

Spero E-Bike - Round 2 (1)

After the first round of crowdfunding, the Spero E-Bike is back. Coimbatore based jute machinery technocrat S. Manikandan launched the Spero E-Bike a few months back on the crowdfunding platform, Fueladream.com and received a positive response. The first campaign raised INR 38 lakh – 125% of its goal with 100+ bookings from across the country.

S. Manikandan, a 38-year old MBA, has been working on this project for more than three years and just launched his second crowdfunding campaign on Fueladream. Besides just contributing to this project, the Funders can pre-order the SPERO E-bike through Fueladream.com. It is made with a judicious mix of locally sourced materials and local ingenuity, and key imported components – the battery comes from Samsung, the motor and tyres come from partners in Korea.

  1. My office is 12 km from home. Due to congestion it takes 45 mins for bike and more than an hour for car. Significant low fuel economy means high running cost too. I wished if my office within 6km range could have commuted on cycle. But 12km is not feasible dur to time, more than required physical activity and cloths changes.

I read this article and had almost decided to buy until I read the last line. The cost. I was hoping it around 12-15k, could have adjusted till 20k. 30k starting and that also and introductory is making it out of reach for me.
