India-spec 2018 Maruti Swift Shows Its Sides Before Official Reveal

Its face will be familiar because there are more than 100,000 examples of it roaming the streets of India already. We are talking about the Maruti Dzire which has already displaced the Alto as the best selling car and shares quite a lot of its appearance with the new Swift. In a way, it has already previewed what we can expect when the new 2018 Maruti Swift shows up at the Expo. But while you take a look at the side profile of the new hatch, we can tell you that there’s a lot more than appearance which will be exciting. While you’re at it, don’t miss the position of the rear door handle and the good looking alloy wheel pattern.

For instance, what originally made the Swift such a joyful experience, for this new-generation model, the chassis has been stiffened and is lighter. The rear track is now wider, the car sits lower and the suspension is tuned to be sporty, which should help the Swift retain and build on its original fun-to-drive characteristics. What about motors? The 2018 Maruti Swift will in all probability be powered by the existing 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre multijet diesel motors. However, the Fiat sourced engine might go through a retune to crank out more power. Do we get a Swift Sport or at least a Boosterjet? That only time will tell when the car is officially revealed.

Inside, there’s more space now in terms of legroom and bootspace which has gone up by nearly 50 litres. It is easy to expect that higher variants will get Maruti’s brilliant touchscreen system which also does duty on the Dzire, the Ciaz and elsewhere. Expect pricing to be slightly higher in comparison to the older car, but Maruti could just throw in a surprise. We’ll bring you more news as and when it arrives. Stay tuned!
