India-made Mercedes-Benz GLC launched; prices start at INR 47.90 lakhs

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the ‘Made in India’ GLC today.  The GLC was rolled-out of its assembly line by Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India. The launch of the ‘Made in India’ GLC makes it the ninth product to roll out out from Mercedes-Benz India’s manufacturing facilities in Chakan, Pune. The locally produced GLC is launched in three variants GLC 220 d 4MATIC Style, GLC 220 d 4MATIC Sport and GLC 300 4MATIC Sport. The GLC 220 d 4MATIC Style is priced at INR 47.90 lakhs, the GLC 220 d 4MATIC Sport at INR 51.50 lakhs and the GLC 300 4MATIC Sportat INR 51.90 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). In comparison, the CBU range of the GLC started at INR 50.7 lakhs (ex-showroom Pune).

Mercedes-Benz India says that local production of the GLC will cater to the increasing demand for the luxury compact SUV, and create a considerable reduction in the waiting period, especially with the onset of the festive season. It is to be noted that local production of the GLC commences within 4 months of India debut. The GLC 220 d is powered by a 2143 cc turbo-diesel engine that produces 170 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque, while the GLC 300’s 1991 cc turbo-petrol engine churns 245 hp and 370 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are motorized by the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The GLC features permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive anda DYNAMIC SELECT Controller with 5 driving modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport +, Individual. Based on the current generation C-Class (W205) sedan’s MRA platform, the GLC is 80 kg lighter than its global predecessor (GLK-Class).

Comfort and convenience features aboard the GLC include an engine start-stop button, three-zone climate control with individual temperature controls, rear vents and three airflow modes, leather trimmed dashboard, an Audio 20 CD sound system, COMAND Online with touchpad, reversing camera with guides, full-LED ambient lighting with three colours and five dimming levels, powered steering adjustment, a panoramic sunroof, roller sunblinds in left and right doors, automatic LED headlamps and automatic wipers. Apart from a 5-star EuroNCAP rating, the GLC also offers a long list of standard safety and assistance features including parking assist, attention assist, adaptive brake lights, seven airbags and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.

The GLC also comes with service packages. Based on the consumers’ needs and preferences, service packages of various age & mileages are introduced. The Compact service packages start at INR 63,000 for the petrol variant and INR 78,000 for the diesel variant. These new Compact packages are offered with unlimited mileage (a first in the luxury car segment) covering maintenance related jobs. These service packages can last up to 10 years from the date of sale. Also, in addition to the standard warranty, customers can avail extended warranty for 4’year at a price of INR 120,000.
