India bound Honda BR-V compact SUV spied in the flesh

Till date, the Honda BR-V compact SUV has been limited to just an official sketch. But now, spy images from Indonesia have revealed Honda’s first compact SUV in detail. An Indonesian reveal is scheduled for August 20 (tomorrow) at the GIIAS 2015 (Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show) in Tangerang. The BR-V acronym stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle, and has been developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand specifically for Asian market. The BR-V shares its platform with the Brio, Amaze and the Mobilio.

Styled using Honda’s ‘XCITING H DESIGN!!!’ philosophy, the BR-V’s front end features a big mouth, taped with horizontal slashes of chrome, glittery headlamps with projector illumination, chrome fog lamp surrounds and aggressive front bumper work with a skid plate to boot.

The sides are characterised by lines that are a nod to the Mobilio, prominent wheel arch trim, subtle side body cladding, and a rather low window line. The wheels are multi-spoke units, decked up with chrome. Thick, dual tone roof rails scream its outdoorsy intents.

When launched in India, sometime later this year or early 2016, the BR-V is expected to be powered by the familiar, 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine (100 hp and 200 Nm), which does duty on the Jazz, Amaze and the City. The 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol engine from the City, good for 118 hp and 145 Nm of torque, should make an appearance too. The BR-V will be available with two transmission options, a 6-speed manual and a CVT. The report also adds that Electronic Stability Control (ESC) could be offered on the highest variant.
