History of Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai Santa Fe is the first mid-size SUV from the house of the Korean carmaker. It was launched globally in the 2000s and named after the city in the USA. The SUV became popular due to its design, practicality, comfort, and features. This results in one of the longest-running models of the carmaker’s line-up.

In India, Hyundai launched the Santa Fe in 2011 and it gained a good response from the market. The 2011 model was the second generation of the Santa Fe globally. This SUV was pitched against its rivals such as Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero, Ford Endeavour, and Chevrolet Captiva.

In 2014, The carmaker launched the third generation of Santa Fe which was based on the fluidic design. This model was more attractive in looks and it was loaded with plenty of features. Later in 2017, Hyundai discontinued the Santa Fe due to the poor demand in the market.

Why is Hyundai Santa Fe popular worldwide?

Hyundai Santa Fe is one of the most popular mid-size SUVs in the global market. Below are the reasons for the popularity of the Hyundai Santa Fe:

Design: The design of the Hyundai Santa Fe is modern and stylish which appeals to the buyers. The Santa Fe had an array of attractive design elements such as the headlights, grille, and road presence.

Interior, Features, and World Premiere

The new Hyundai Santa Fe gets a black and white theme interior with ambient lighting. The interior gets a sleek layout with square-shaped elements such as AC vents, a center console, and display panels. It is expected that the new Santa Fe will get the soft touch material on the dashboard and door trims. But the carmaker hasn’t revealed the list of the features in the new Santa Fe.

Hyundai will reveal more details of the Santa Fe in the world premiere event. This event is likely to happen in August of 2023 on Hyundai’s YouTube Channel.

How will it fare in India?

In the last decade, Hyundai launched its Santa Fe SUV in India. But the overall response from the market was poor which led to the low sales numbers. With the competition from capable rivals such as Toyota Fortuner, the presence of Santa Fe felt short.

But now, Hyundai has unveiled the new generation Santa Fe with a bigger road presence and larger dimensions. The Indian buyers have only the Toyota Fortuner and the MG Gloster to choose from in the SUV segment. The bigger and bolder Santa Fe with its rich set of features and backed by Hyundai’s sales and service network can definitely make a dent in this segment. Pricing will be the key factor though.

Official Statement

“The all-new Santa Fe is an SUV that finds a perfect balance between city life and the great outdoors, handling everything from busy family itineraries to car camping adventures,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. “With its longer wheelbase, roomy interior, and terrace-like tailgate space, the new Santa Fe leans into its SUV strengths to offer more versatility than ever before as well as a premium customer experience.”
