Hyundai Santro to be Phased Out Next Month ?

Hyundai entered the Indian market with the Santro hatchback way back in 1998. Now, after 16 years of its existence, the Korean car maker has decided to phase out the model in the Indian market. Similar to the Daewoo Matiz, it was the first car for many Indian families.

Upon its launch, the Santro was powered by a 1.0 liter petrol motor. At a later stage, Hyundai plonked the 1.1 liter block in the Santro which continues to power the car till date. Due to its tall boy design, it was the first choice for many buyers who wanted a tall hatch and couldn’t think of plonking their money on the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R.

Now, according to a report, it has surfaced that Hyundai will be ceasing the production of the car next month. The Hyundai Santro competes with the likes of Chevrolet Spark and the Maruti Suzuki Alto.

Hyundai currently has five hatchbacks in its line-up. With the Santro’s entry, the number of hatchbacks would go down to four. What do you think about this decision of Hyundai India ? Do you think its the right time for the Santro to be shown the doors ? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
