Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 5 N has emerged as a game-changer in the electric vehicle (EV) landscape, defying expectations with its fusion of everyday practicality and thrilling racetrack capabilities. Launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, the IONIQ 5 N has not only turned heads but has also shifted perceptions about the potential of high-performance EVs while setting a new benchmark.
What does the “Drift King” Say?
Renowned Japanese racecar driver Keiichi ‘DK’ Tsuchiya, popularly known as the ‘Drift King,’ expressed his surprise at the IONIQ 5 N’s capabilities, stating, “This is my first time driving an EV that can drift. It is so much fun. The most surprising was the agility. I thought, ‘Oh, they’re making playful cars.’ This has changed my impression about Hyundai Motor.”

Performance
Test drivers have lauded the IONIQ 5 N for seamlessly blending daily practicality with racetrack excitement. International media will have the chance to put it to the test at its birthplace, the Korea International Circuit in Young-am.
At its core, the IONIQ 5 N comes loaded with an 84 kWh battery that powers two motors located at the front and rear axles of the car. The front motor produces 226 PS while the rear produces 383 PS. The combined power produced is 609 PS. The IONIQ 5 N also comes equipped with a boost mode that boosts the power to 650 PS for about 10 seconds.
Cornering Capabilities
Equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) and rally-inspired handling, the IONIQ 5 N takes driving to new heights with its Corner Rascal capabilities. The reinforced N R-MDPS steering column, enhanced body structure, and N Pedal software create a dynamic driving experience. The N Drift Optimizer and N Torque Distribution system add to the thrill, making drifting a reality. With 21-inch forged aluminum wheels, the car ensures both agility and performance.

Everyday Sportscar
Beyond the racetrack, the IONIQ 5 N proves to be an Everyday Sportscar. N e-shift provides precise control over power delivery, simulating gearshifts for an interactive experience. N Active Sound + adds a layer of futuristic EV sounds, enhancing the overall driving experience. The innovative N Road Sense system automatically recommends activating N Mode based on road signs, optimizing settings for a dynamic driving experience.
Performance-enhancing Design
The IONIQ 5 N’s exterior reflects its commitment to sportiness and track-driving potential. Proportional adjustments, a unique N-Mask graphic fascia, and distinctive color accents contribute to its racetrack-ready appearance. The interior seamlessly integrates N family design elements, combining style and functionality for track driving.
Incorporating sustainable materials, the interior enhances both sustainability and track-inspired design. The IONIQ 5 N is not just an EV; it’s a vehicle designed to provide an exceptional and interactive driving experience.
