Hyundai of South Africa have added some warmth to the India-made i20 hatchback. Called the i20 N Sport, it was launched this week in SA, with prices starting from R235,500 (INR 11.75 lakh).

The N Sport package equipped i20 is powered by a 1.4-litre Kappa petrol  engine, which has been tweaked to produce 115 PS of power and 160 Nm of peak torque. The 16-valve engine also employs dual continuous variable valve timing technology and multi point electronic fuel injection. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The suspension has also been lowered and stiffened, which accounts for a lower center of gravity, meaning that this Hyundai won’t be a handful when shown the bends. Braking performance has also been uprated, with the N-Sport package adding ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear, assisted by all-wheel EBD and 4-channel ABS.

To match the go, the i20 N-Sport’s show is boosted by a Sport Body kit, which includes subtle side skirts, a rear spoiler, along with front and rear bumper trim finishes. 17-inch alloy wheels with updated footwear should account for more grip, while N-badges on the front mudguards and rear hatchback door announce its sporting intents. Last but not the least, a stainless steel catback exhaust system should also make for a throatier note.

  1. Its time HMIL should think to bring this 1.4 or 1.0 turbo petrols in indian i20/active. Hatchbacks are no more just a middleclass car but also an enthusiasts dream. Proven by the reason of 1.2 TSI, Ecoboost, TRD Sportivo. It creats a brand of its own which HMIL should not let slip from their portfolio. It is especially important as they have the engines ready but hesitating to ignore the silly excise duty cut which ensthusiasts doesn't care.
