We reported in detail when it first emerged that Hyundai Motor India Ltd has been busy testing a new Hyundai Eon 1.0 litre variant. Now, our good sources at HMIL have informed us that the Hyundai Eon 1.0 launch could happen as soon as next month and the first batch of the cars have already been dispatched to the dealerships! The upcoming more powerful variant of the Eon city car is also likely to sport some minor revisions made it its exterior styling. These could include a new set of bumpers, a slightly different pair of headlights and a revised front grille. The Hyundai Eon 1.0 will be seen rivaling the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Chevrolet Spark 1.0 and the latest blockbuster, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
The upcoming Hyundai Eon 1.0 will be powered by a 998cc, three-cylinder, petrol engine that comes from the Europe spec Hyundai i10. It may be noted that this engine never made it to India spec i10, base models of which are powered by a 1.1 litre engine that comes from the Santro.
The Eon 1.0 is likely to enjoy a max power of around 68bhp @6,200rpm and a peak torque of 95Nm @3,500rpm. The new Hyundai Eon 1.0 could enjoy a 0-100kmph run of less than 14 seconds, which we reckon, is enough to scare drivers of some bigger hatchbacks out there. The top speed for this car is expected to be pegged around 160 kmph.
The Eon 1.0 is expected to command a premium of about INR 40000 over the 800 cc variant.
