The production spec Honda Urban SUV has finally made its world premiere and has been showcased at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. The production spec Honda Urban SUV has been christened as the Vezel and the new compact SUV  would go on sale in Japan from December 20.

The Honda Vezel aka production spec Urban SUV will rival some established models such as the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and the Fiat 500X. The Urban SUV is based on the new Jazz/Fit platform and impresses us with its ‘mini CR-V’ styling. The car draws styling cues from the bigger SUV and the surfaces have been left clean and devoid of sharp curves to keep the development and production costs under check. We like the way the rear door handles have found a home in the C pillar, all of which helps the car in sporting a coupe like profile.

The Honda Vezel that has been showcased in Tokyo boasts of a hybrid powertrain. However, the manufacturer has stated that a petrol powered variant, along with 2WD and 4WD layouts, will be offered. It is expected that the new Jazz based crossover would get 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter EarthDream engines, along with a new gen iDTEC diesel sipping unit for markets like ours.

The new 2014 Honda Vezel becomes the second member of Honda’s Global Compact Series, which should help the car maker achieve its target of selling over 1.5 million cars globally by the end of 2016.

There are good chances that the Honda Vezel would greet us at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo that will  be held in February next year.
