Honda recalls 57,676 cars to replace driver-side airbags in India

The Takata airbag issue has affected millions of vehicles worldwide, and car makers are struggling to cope with the trouble it has caused. As a preventive measure, car makers in India are also recalling their respective car models for addressing the issue with the airbags, which may result in potential failure during an accident. Honda Cars India Ltd today announced that it will voluntarily replace Driver Side Airbag inflators of 57,676 vehicles of previous generation of City, Jazz and Civic as part of Honda’s preventive global recall campaign concerning Air Bag inflators. In all, Honda will recall about 2.24 lakh vehicles in India to address the airbag issue in a phased manner.

The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner, starting from 20th February 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly.

The customers can also check whether their car will be covered under this campaign by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company’s website.
