The good folks at Autocar Professional have reported that Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the Indian subsidiary of Japanese two wheeler maker, intends to further consolidate its position in the scooter segment of Indian Two Wheeler market by launching a new 110cc scooter this month.

This scooter is a small part of HMSI’s strategy to further strengthen its position in the rapidly growing two wheeler market of our country. The highlight of this latest strategy is to increase the total number of fully functional manufacturing units to seven by the year 2020.

Honda will be soon seen inaugurating its fourth new production facility in Vithalapur, Gujarat. This production facility will be fully functional by late 2014/early 2015 and would have an annual production capacity of 18 Lakhs units. This would take HMSI’s total two wheeler producing capacity to 40 lakhs units per annum.

Also on the cards could be a new 125cc variant of the Activa. This scooter would rival the likes of Suzuki Access and Vespa VX.

Honda already has as many as four 110cc automatic scooters in its portfolio. With the advent of the upcoming scooter, prospective automatic scooter buyers are sure to get spoilt for choice. The Activa-i caters to the entry level automatic scooter segment, the Dio is aimed at the youth and the Activa and Aviator duo targets the family persons. With all the bases already covered, we wonder what would be the target audience for the next automatic scooter from Honda.

Watch out for this space for more updates on the upcoming Honda 110cc scooter.
