Honda Concept CB and CB1100 Custom Concept previewed ahead of 2015 Tokyo Motor Show

Honda CB Concept - 1

The motoring world may have evolved to develop motorcycles delivering over 200 bhp of power but nothing can match the charm of the retro machines that continue to roll and jewel up the streets even today. So while at one hand, Honda was developing the RS213V-S MotoGP inspired motorcycle, on the other, it was simultaneously working on the Concept CB – a product inspired by the machines of the yesteryear and based on the current CB1100.

The Concept CB has been previewed before it makes its show debut at the upcoming 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. As seen in the images, the motorcycle will share its engine, frame, suspension and brakes with the CB1100. However, the overall design has been updated. The elements that have gone under the scalpel include, but are not limited to the fuel tank and seats. The overall design looks simple yet elegant – a the timeless lines look as desirable as they did a few decades back. The traditional spoke wheels are icing on this cake bursting with classic flavours.

Another motorcycle that will jewel up Honda Motorcycle’s stand at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, along with the Concept CB, is the CB1100 Custom Concept.

The CB1100 Custom Concept is also based on the current generation CB1100 but receives major tweaks to make it stand apart as a cafe racer. The CB1100 Custom Concept features chequered flag graphics that would be painted – and not pasted as a sticker – on the body, handlebar-end mounted rear view mirrors and an all-black engine and exhaust. The pillion seat has been raised to give it a rear-cowl like design – improving the aesthetics without hampering the functionality (much).

The design of the Honda Concept CB and CB1100 Custom Concept swings more towards a production ready layout instead of the typically fantastic designs that never make it to the assembly line. So expect to see the two motorcycles rolling on the streets sometime very soon in the future.

What would propel these retro motorcycles? Honda has remained tight lipped about the performance numbers but we expect the two new concepts to draw power from the same 1140cc air- and oil-cooled inline four-cylinder motor that is seen on the current generation CB1100. Performance may be slightly bumped up over the current model but we wouldn’t let our imagination wander too far till Honda comes out with the official figures.

But would power be a priority on a machine that looks as elegant and classy as these new concepts? Not for us. Do you concur? Or is power your kryptonite? Let us know your views through the comments section below.
