Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has created a new yardstick for success as the two-wheeler maker’s much successful scooter, the Activa, has become the first two-wheeler to cross one million sales mark in five months of this fiscal (FY’2015-16). With this milestone, the Activa has now become the largest selling two-wheeler in Indian market from FY’16 till date.
Activa is one of the leading the scooters in the Indian two wheeler industry with sales contributes 51% to the scooter segment. Activa sales volume has grown 20 times that of the two wheeler Industry which has remained flat so far this year in April to August, 2015. By adding an incremental 1.6 lakh units sold over last year, Activa has given a boost to the entire two wheeler industry. Activa sold a total of 2.17 lac units in August, 2015.
Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India says that the the company is excited to have started the festive season on a high note, with Activa creating a hat-trick as the No. 1 selling two-wheeler of India for three consecutive months. Further, with the improvement in rural infrastructure in future Honda expects that scooter contribution has the potential to go up further.
