FIAT Argo

Hidden under all that camouflage could be a replacement for the Fiat Linea

FCA has found a new direction in India with the new Jeep Compass. If all goes well and the success continues, brand Fiat will in all probability be revived with some exciting new products making it to the dealership floor. One of them could be the new Fiat Argo, which made its debut recently in South America as a successor to the ageing Fiat Punto. Based on the good looking new hatch, an all-new sedan is currently in the works and will most likely make its debut next year in the Southern Hemisphere.

Codenamed X6S, the Argo based sedan was caught testing recently, wrapped in full camouflage. Whenever it decides to shed it, competing against it will be similar products like the Honda City, the Hyundai Verna and VW’s Polo based sedan. Although it will borrow the Argo’s good looks, there will be some differentiating additions, like some chrome detailing or differently styled bumpers.

On the inside too, the Argo based sedan will share the cabin layout with the hatchback. However, the features and equipment list could be longer to make it go head-on against its competition. Powering the new sedan could be Fiat’s 1.0, 1.3, and 1.8-litre motors, which will be paired to either 5-speed manual, an AMT with as many ratios or six-speed automatic gearboxes.

There is no confirmation yet if either the Argo hatchback or this new sedan will make it to India. However, given the visible optimism in FCA’s outlook towards India, we wouldn’t be surprised if brand Fiat makes a strong comeback with any or both these products.
