GoPro Dives into Smart Helmet Tech

GoPro has revealed its strategic move to acquire Forcite Helmet Systems, an industry pioneer in embedding cutting-edge technology into helmets.

This move signals GoPro’s intent to revolutionize the motorcycling experience by introducing tech-enabled motorcycle helmets and, in the long run, expanding this technology to other helmet categories.

GoPro’s Vision

GoPro Founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, emphasizing the substantial Total Addressable Market (TAM) represented by the broader helmet industry.

Woodman highlighted the goal of leveraging Forcite’s expertise to enhance the safety and performance of various helmet types, starting with the innovation of motorcycle helmets.

“The greater helmet market represents a meaningful TAM expanding opportunity for GoPro, and we’re excited for the Forcite team to join us so that together we can work towards enhancing the performance and safety of various types of helmets, starting with motorcycle helmets,” said Woodman.

A Strategic Approach

Woodman outlined GoPro’s strategic approach, which involves not only developing a proprietary line of GoPro-branded helmets but also collaborating with other leading helmet brands to integrate tech features into their products.

This collaborative effort aims to drive industry progress and establish tech-enabled helmets as a standard across the market.

“In addition to our plan to develop our own GoPro-branded line of helmets, we are excited to partner with other leading helmet brands to help tech-enable their own helmet lines. We have great respect for established brands, and we look forward to working with them to help drive the industry forward, together,” Woodman added.

Forging Partnerships

GoPro extends an invitation to leading helmet brands interested in joining forces to contact the company directly at partnerships@gopro.com.

This initiative reflects GoPro’s commitment to collaboration and the recognition of the strengths of established brands in the industry.
