The war of the compact sedans will soon rise several notches as Ford plans to introduce its Figo based sub-four meter three-box car for the Indian market. The new Ford Figo based compact sedan, which was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi, may reach Indian showroom sooner than expected. If reports from automotive website IAB are to be believed, this compact sedan will reach Indian shores by the end of first quarter of 2015. The website also suggests that Ford will manufacture this upcoming sedan at its plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
Known as the Ka+ in the Brazilian market, this sub-four meter sedan will be powered by the same power mill that is found on the hatchback. So, a 1-litre three-cylinder engine with 84 bhp of power and 105Nm of torque will perform duty on the Figo sedan. The car may also receive a 1.5-litre DuraTorq engine that equips the EcoSport and 2014 Fiesta.
The Ford Figo sedan, in the Indian market, will face competition from Honda’s highly successful Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and the tried and tested Suzuki Swift Dzire. The sub-four meter geometry and local manufacturing will help Ford price the Figo sedan competitively. So expect the prices to hover between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
