Maruti Suzuki is one of the most popular car makers in the Indian market. Recently, the maker unveiled its most awaited SUV, the Jimny at Auto Expo 2023.
This depicts that the brand is on the verge of launching this SUV in India. Now, Maruti Suzuki has started production and the first unit of Jimny is rolled out from the plant.
The production status of Maruti Jimny
As per the sources, the manufacturer will announce the prices of the Jimny by next month of June. And the deliveries will be commenced a week later. The manual variants will be the most popular having a waiting period of 6 months. Meanwhile, the waiting period for the Automatic variant will go up to 8 months.
The brand has aimed for the production capacity of the Jimny at around 1 lakh units per year. Out of these, 66% of the stake will account for domestic sales while the rest are export units. The sales target of the manufacturer is aimed at around 7,000 units per month.
The Powertrain and 4×4 system
The Maruti Suzuki will launch the Jimny SUV with 1 engine and 2 gearbox options. At the heart of the matter of this SUV is a 1.5L 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine. However, this engine makes 103hp of power and 138nm of torque output.
The Jimny will get the options of a 5-Speed Manual and 4-Speed Automatic Transmission. Moreover, the Jimny will receive a standard Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4WD system. This 4×4 system comprises the manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes.
Pricing and the competition
The expected price range of the Jimny at around Rs. 10 lakh-12 lakh ex-with no direct competition. However, Maruti Jimny will indirectly face competition from Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
