BMW Group Plant in Chennai has rolled out the first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo in India. Recently launched at Auto Expo 2018, the first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been rolled-out in a locally-produced petrol variant, the BMW 630i Gran Turismo Sport Line. The diesel variant will be launched later in 2018. BMW India has been systematically accelerating its localization programme in India. The company follows the ‘Production follows the market’ approach and has increased the level of localization at BMW Group Plant Chennai up to 50 percent.
BMW Group Plant Chennai locally produces the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3 and the BMW X5. BMW Plant Chennai will start the local production of MINI Countryman in 2018.
The first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo is quite a distinctive car. BMW claims that it’s the founder of its genre. The 6-series concept fuses the space, luxury and comfort of a proper sedan with a sporty coupé style. It’s meant to combine a spacious interior with comfort, with a dash of flamboyance and visual flair.
The new 6-series GT (630i petrol) is available with a 258 BHP 2.0 Litre four cylinder turbo petrol off the block. BMW has also promised to introduce a 190 BHP 2.0 Litre and a 265 BHP 3.0 Litre six-cylinder oil burner option all paired with an 8-speed automatic later. The cabin gets an iDrive infotainment system, four-zone climate control, a 1400W Bowers & Wilkins 16-speaker audio setup and mood-lighting. The car will also ride on air suspension all around for added comfort. The 630i petrol is available with prices starting at INR 58.9 Lakhs (ex-Delhi). The diesel motors will follow in the second half of 2018.
