Alonso F1 crash grand prix

The 2016 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix that took place last week saw one of the most horrifying crashes in its history. The mishap occurred when the car driven by Fernando Alonso of McLaren Honda made contact with the left rear wheel of car driven by Haas F1 team’s Esteban Gutierrez.

A red flag was waved after the accident that occurred in the 19th lap of the 57 lap race. At turn 3, both drivers, believed to be at speeds of over 300 km/ph, entered the braking zone where the McLaren’s front tyre came in contact with Haas’s rear wheel. The impact was such that Alonso’s vehicle flipped over into the air and back on the ground prior to crashing in the tyre wall.

Gutierrez’s car suffered comparatively less damage as the car spun twice before coming to a halt. Although the mishap was quite brutal, Alonso was lucky enough as he climbed out of his wrecked car, albeit limping away.

The official twitter handle of McLaren later revealed that Alonso had visited the medical centre and was formally given an okay by the doctors. At the end of the day, no one was blamed for the incident as none were hurt in this crash.
