Dealerships have been buzzing with customer phone calls as enquiries flood in about the Yamaha YZF-R25/R3 motorcycles. Well, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that the YZF-R3 will not be making it to the Indian shores for the time being. The good news is that the quarter-litre YZF-R25 is likely to reach dealership in as early as March-April 2015. The exports of Yamaha YZF-R25 were postponed due to high demand in Indonesia where the motorcycle is manufactured.

The news came in from our source who suggests that the Yamaha YZF-R25 will reach the showroom by March-April 2015 and that’s when the bookings are also likely to commence. Although we could not get a price range, our source did suggest that the on-road price is expected to hover above Rs 2 lakh mark, and slightly below the Rs 2.5 lakh mark. We can roughly assume the price to be Rs 2.3 lakh or thereabout, based on that information.

Yamaha will export the YZF-R25 from Indonesia to over 30 countries, including Japan. The motorcycle will come to India via the CKD route which will attract import taxes resulting higher pricing.

The Yamaha R25 will come with a new 249cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that would produce 35 bhp of power and 22.6Nm of torque. The engine comes clubbed with a six-speed gearbox. The bike comes with new high-compression (11.6:1) engine which uses Yamaha’s DiASil (Die casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinders for better heat dissipation and lighter weight.

We hope that Yamaha prices the YZF-R25 competitively as it will face stiff competition from locally manufactured and the reigning champion of the entry level performance motorcycles, the KTM RC390 which retails at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 2.11 lakh. Also, local manufacturers like Bajaj and Hero MotoCorp are on the verge of introducing entry level performance motorcycles, the Pulsar 200SS and the HX250R respectively, and will also have a home ground advantage as their production cost is limited whereas Yamaha will face import duties.

Here are all the numbers on the Yamaha R25 reiterated:

Engine Type 2 cylinder 4 stroke, 8 valve DOHC Liquid Cooling
Cubic Capacity 249cc

  1. Yahama R25 ,, when it’s gonna launch in India ?? Plz !! Let me know the exact time !! It’s not yet launched in India?? I am waiting eagerly for this bike ??

  2. i am lookin forward to buy rc 390 which is the best bike in under 500cc bike category.but i came to know that the seating is more aggressive in that bike and the fuel tank capacity is just 10.1 litres. so i am waiting for R3.if the price seem to be fair,i would flip n R3.

  3. I am eagerly waiting for YZF-R25…please launch it soon in india…i cant wait for it anymore…excited 🙂

  4. Ideally, the YZF-R3 would have been a better product for the Indian market where the Kawasaki Ninja has already graduated to the 300cc class and the Honda CBR will soon be upgraded. Many things are speculated so it is difficult to pin point anything about the YZF-R25 at this point of time. All we can say is wait for a while till Yamaha comes up with an official statement.

  5. Dude….this is a heart breaker news…

I was planning to buy the first R3 in new delhi.

Can u tell when the R3 will be launched and are you sure that the R2 which gonna come will be a twin cylinder and not a single one as rumoured now a days…
