Doors to the highly awaited 2013 EICMA are close to being thrown open and various participating manufacturers have already commenced the product announcements. Earlier today, we reported in detail about the recently unveiled 2014 Harley Davidson Street 500 and Street 750 and now, we have a detailed report on two new bikes from Honda.

The new 2014 Honda CBR650F and Honda CB650F are based on the same platform and as is obvious, the new bikes would sit above the CB500 and CBR500 models.

The new bikes are powered by a 649cc inline-four cylinder motor that has been designed to be compact and have a forward cant of 30 degrees. The motor has a bore and stroke of 67mm x 46mm and the engine benefits from 16 valves and a DOHC head. Honda says that the timing of the new engine has been optimized for better real world drivability and the engine is said to offer plenty of torque below 4000 rpm. The motor has a max power of 85.8hp @11,000rpm and a peak torque of 46.5 ft-lb @8000 RPM.

The new 650 bikes have a claimed efficiency of 47.2 mpg  and hence, the 4.6 gallon tank bestows the bikes with a 217 mile range.

The chassis is constructed from twin 64mm x 30mm elliptical spars and the bike has a wet weight of 465 lb. Both the bikes get two-channel ABS as standard.

As is expected from naked and faired siblings, the difference between the two bikes lie in the bodyworks, the riding positions and the he suspension settings. The seat height, at 31.9 inches, remains the same for both the models.

From the Author- Now the million dollar question- Are these bikes coming to India? Well . . . now that the Ninja 650 is here can the. . . . .

  1. Hold up!! What?! only 85 horses for 4 cylinders?!!
Okay maybe its just a 650cc engine but why the hell did Honda put a 4-cyl engine in it?! I mean a V-twin could have also worked out too, even 85 horses would have sound better for a V-twin but a 4 pot, its like having a big body with less power!!
    HONDA IS GOING TOTAL CRAZY!

  2. I dont get it.. why have a 4 cylinder engine? wont it add to weight? two or just because it is mentioned all new, three would have been better.. just wondering..
