This is how the EcoSport rivaling Mahindra S101 compact SUV could look like

If the good chaps at Autocar are to be believed, the above image reveals how the upcoming Ecosport-rivalling Mahindra S101 compact SUV would look like. Going by this image, the upcoming compact SUV would look much like a smaller XUV500 and this further convinces us that the car could go on sale with the XUV3OO moniker

The Mahindra S101 compact SUV will be built on a monocoque chassis and would be powered by a set of engines displacing less than 1.5 litres. It is believed that the Quanto’s 1.5litres, three-pot, twin scroll turbo engine has good chances of making it to the S101 and Mahindra would re-tune the oil burner to offer more in terms of performance and refinement. The S101’s diesel engine might have an ARAI certified mileage of as much as 23 kmpl. The S101 could get an Automatic transmission for the diesel engine variant. It may be noted that Mahindra & Mahindra has been coming out with ‘segment-firsts’ since some time now (Read: Micro hybrid, twin turbo diesel engine, et al).

The S101 would measure less than 4 metres in length and would be smaller than the Quanto. The XUV300 will borrow a lot of features from the XUV500 and might get a smaller version of the XUVs audio-visual-navigation package, an auto climate control, steering mounted buttons for infotainment system and safety features like ABS, EBD, 4 airbags and ESP. The S101 will become the second monocoque with transverse layout from Mahindra & Mahindra.

Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming Mahindra Compact SUV.

  1. The S101 has been interesting news for a while but I don’t think that would be a real rival to the ecosport. For that only the Ssangyong XIV1 would match.
If M&M is smart thats the car they should pitch in to battle it out with Ford’s Ecosport.
