It has today emerged that DSK-Hyosung, the Indian JV between the DSK group and the popular Korean bike maker, could soon introduce electric scooters in the Indian two wheeler market. DSK-Hyosung plans to produce the electric scooter locally and hence, price its products bang against the offerings from Hero Electric, TVS Motors and Yo Bykes. It may be noted that under the NEMMP 2020, electric bike makers are entitled to receiving a significant subsidy.
The first electric bike from the DSK Hyosung group might be the ST-E3 EVA electric scooter that is on sale in many international markets. The ST-E3 has dollops of retro styling elements and is powered by a 3.8 bhp electric motor that is in turn powered by a set of lithium ion batteries. The electric motor is a brushless DC unit that is placed in the rear wheel hub. The electric motor is sufficient to endow the scooter with a top whack of 60 Kmph and a range of 100 kilometers.
