The diesel engine range includes a direct-injection, common rail 1.5 litre which churns out 114 bhp and 269 Nm of torque.Mini adds that, when compared to the previous 1.6 litre, the new engine is 7% more economical and will be mated to new manual and automatic transmissions.
Although the car’s dimensions have been increased, MINI says that the weight has been decreased, thanks to a more extensive use of high-strength steels. Also, a new electronic power steering system will be incorporated which will “promote agility, driving safety and comfort” while the braking system is lighter and has better friction. The 2014 MINI will also boast electronically-adjustable dampers and two driving modes to choose from- “emphatically sporty” and “balanced and comfortable.”

The new MINI will aslso be pedestrian conscious. Thanks to the standard active hood which will automatically raise in case of a collision with a pedestrian at speeds ranging from 12 mph (19 km/h) to 34 mph (55 km/h) which is basically city speeds. This hood, on collision, creates a yielding crumple zone that absorbs impact energy and provides extra protection to the pedestrian.

This MINI will ride on the UKL1 platform which will also underpin future BMW front- and all-wheel drive models.
The 2014 MINI will be officially revealed on November 18 at Mini’s factory in Oxford, United Kingdom.
