The demonetisation drive has impacted a large number of people across the country. While most industries dependent on cash transactions are hit hard due to the move made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, another respite seems to have come to the rescue.
Senior officials from companies such as IOCL, HPCL and BPCL met the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI) where it was decided that an amount up to INR 2000 per person, per day can be dispensed against the swiping of debit cards where SBI machines are available.

To begin with, the facility will be provided by 2500 outlets across the country where the machines are present. The facility will be gradually extended to 20,000 petrol pumps that have machines from HDFC bank, ICICI bank and Citi Bank.
The facility will be available even after November 24th, when fuel pumps will stop accepting notes of INR 500 and INR 1000. The move is also likely to inconvenience customers who will line up only to fill fuel as there could possibly be a larger line just for the sake of cash withdrawals.
