Citroën Basalt Vision Breaks Cover, Tata Curvv Rival?

Citroën has unveiled the first images of the Citroën Basalt Vision, a compact SUV Coupé concept slated to join the Brand’s range in India and South America in the latter half of 2024. This new model combines various automotive elements to provide customers with a premium driving experience. It merges the fluidity and dynamism of a Coupé, the durability of an elevated SUV, and the spaciousness of a 5-door saloon.

Thierry Koskas, Citroën CEO, expressed excitement about the Basalt Vision, highlighting its innovative design, onboard comfort, and local production. Developed with input from teams across regions, this model aims to bolster Citroën’s international growth alongside the C3 and C3 Aircross in key markets.

Citroën Basalt Vision – What to Expect

The Citroën Basalt Vision marks a new concept in the compact SUV Coupé segment, blending attributes from different automotive realms. Its SUV persona embodies modernity, robustness, and assurance, with a confident stance on the road, emphasized by high ground clearance, an upright front end, and distinctive geometric shapes. The coupé-like rear trailing edge adds fluidity and dynamism, resulting in a model that exudes energy and elegance.

The production Basalt will share it’s underpinnings with the C3 and the C3 Aircross. Like the C3 Aircross, the Basalt too will be offered with the 1.2 L turbo-petrol engine. The PURETECH 110 motor makes 109 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter gearbox.

In terms of pricing, we expect it to be priced between the C3 and the C3 Aircross. Expect the Basalt to be priced closely to the 5-seater C3 Aircross.

Why ‘Basalt’?

The name “Basalt” derives from its source of inspiration, reflecting robustness and serenity akin to the volcanic rock. This name will be retained upon its release, aligning with the vehicle’s promise of endurance and reliability, offering occupants a comfortable and secure driving experience. With ample space and protective shields, the Basalt provides a sense of safety and security, ideal for navigating challenging driving conditions.

As the third model in Citroën’s C-Cubed program for growth in India and South America, the Basalt Vision joins the C3 and C3 Aircross, aiming to offer distinctive design and ease of use tailored to customer needs in these markets. Built on the Smart Car platform, all three models showcase platform modularity and efficiency. Beyond product offerings, Citroën seeks to enhance customer experience through services that simplify ownership.
