Chevrolet Says Upcoming 2015 Corvette Z06 will be the last one if sales don’t improve

A Chevrolet engineer recently stated that the upcoming 2015 Corvette Z06 may be the last one if the sales don’t increase.

When asked about the upcoming Corvette Z06 by Digital Trends, Corvette chief engineer, Tadge Juechter said “if we don’t get sales back up, there won’t be a next one.” From what we infer, he was referring to the Z06 version of the Corvette but Digital Trends says the Corvette could be discontinued completely around 2020.

The current Z06 delivers around 500 hp from its 7.0-liter V8. According to reports, Chevrolet will sell the 2015 Z06 with a 7.0 liter V8, which will have a max output of 600 bhp. The supercharged 6.2 liter V8 will be reserved for use in the next-gen ZR1. Since the prices for the Stingray start from USD 63,000, the Z06 is expected to be priced around USD 80,000.

GM says the new Z06 will be “the most track-capable Corvette ever, designed to deliver supercar levels of performance through unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features.”

Chevrolet will introduce the 2015 Corvette Z06 at the North America International Auto Show at Detroit in January next year and the car will go into production in late 2014.
