Role of CEAT Initiative in reducing plastic pollution

CEAT has teamed up with local self-help groups to produce eco-friendly cloth bags at their community centre in the Bhandup plant. This collaboration empowers women economically and spreads awareness about sustainability and the importance of minimizing plastic usage. The brand has achieved a remarkable milestone of manufacturing 5,000 bags. And on World Environment Day 2023, these bags will be distributed across all CEAT plants.

A Long Week Celebration of Sustainability

In addition to the Cloth Bag initiative, various CEAT plants are gearing up for a week-long Environment Week. This week is filled with activities aimed at engaging employees and promoting environmental awareness. One of the exciting activities is an environmental photography and video competition centred around the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.”

The week will also witness various other engaging activities, including tree plantation drives, a signature campaign, and jute bags distribution. This highlights the importance of reducing plastic waste. An environmental knowledge quiz competition will be conducted, while clean-up campaigns will be conducted. The campaign will target the areas beyond the manufacturing facility, such as the scrap yard, utility areas, and periphery.

Official Statement

Mr. Arnab Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO, of CEAT Limited said, “Embracing our duty to care for the environment is a commitment we owe to our planet and future generations. At CEAT, we are dedicated to combating plastic pollution and fostering sustainability in alignment with this year’s World Environment Day theme, #BeatPlasticPollution. Our initiative to use cloth bags at CEAT serves as a sustainable solution to reduce plastic pollution. These bags are produced in our community centre at the Bhandup plant, and three self-help groups have already reaped the benefits of this endeavour. By offering an alternative to single-use plastic bags, we aim to raise awareness about sustainability and inspire individuals to adopt eco-friendly practices. On World Environment Day 2023, we will distribute these bags across all our plants, as we join hands in our pledge to protect our planet and work towards a greener future.”
