Car Sales June 2016: Honda Cars India registers negative domestic growth

Honda BR-V (91)

Honda Cars India reported negative monthly domestic wholesales registering 11,407 units in June 2016 against 18,380 units in the corresponding month last year. The company registered cumulative domestic sales of 31,847 units in the period April – June 2016 against 44,447 units for the corresponding period last year. HCIL also exported a total of 393 units during June 2016.

Honda Cars India President & CEO Yoichiro Ueno said that the shift in consumer preferences led to high stock of diesel vehicles at the car maker’s dealerships. As a deliberate measure, Honda has been rationalising wholesale dispatches to correct the stock situation at its dealerships. The market is good and the retail sales were much higher than wholesales.

The stock levels at the dealerships have been almost normalised and the car maker expects that its wholesales would match the retail sales level in July. The new BR-V is claimed to have received good acceptance in the market with over 11,000 cumulative bookings. Honda recently achieved cumulative sales milestone of 200,000 units for Amaze.

  1. Honda’s high service cost+ twice a year schedule, compared to Maruti, Toyota or Hyundai’s once in a year servicing probably has the negative impact on Indian buyers ..
