We had earlier told you that BMW was about to launch their X1 compact SUV in the Indian market on the 23rd December. Now Autocar India is reporting that the prices of the new premium car are out too. The car will be available in three variants, Corporate Edition, Highline, and Cool Elegance. The car will be powered by two engines, a 1.8-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel.
The cheapest, CE (Corporate Edition) of the X1 will not come with many options. This is just like the CE version of the 3-series which is stripped down to a certain level for a lower price. The Highline will be the mid variant while Cool Elegance version will have all the options boxes ticked. To give you an idea of how BMW manage to cut costs on the Corporate Edition variants, the base version will not have sunroof, six-CD changer and wood inserts. The car will have a single CD player and will feature fabric seats. Wood garnishing available in higher variants will also not be available on the X1 CE.
The prices for the X1 SUV are as follows (ex-showroom)
X1 CE 1.8 petrol 22 Lakh
X1 CE 2.0 diesel 23Lakh
X1 Cool Elegance Rs 32.5 Lakh
With that kind of aggressive pricing, the X1 may just start a price war in the Indian premium car segment.
