Marking the US arrival of the new BMW i8, the German car maker plans to auction a one off Concours d’Elegance Edition during the weekend of the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition will don a Frozen Grey Metallic exterior paint while the interior will boast Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery. Interior also includes other trim accents in BMW i Blue, including the seat belts, as well as have “BMW i8” embossed into the front headrests. This special edition will include company’s latest laser headlights, however, it is pending government approval. The words “Concours d’Elegance Edition” i8 will be laser etched in the interior.
The car will be sold at the Pebble Beach Auctions presented by Gooding & Company on Saturday, August 16 at the Pebble Beach Special Events area.
The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive powertrain which combines an electric motor to drive the front wheels and a 1.5-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder gasoline engine driving the rear wheels. The i8 car reach from 0-100kph in 4.2 seconds and to a top speed of 250kph.
The BMW i8 is the world’s first series-produced vehicle to be made available with laser headlights as an option. These generate a pure-white, extremely bright light that is pleasant to the eye by converting the beams emitted by tiny laser diodes using a fluorescent phosphorous material inside the headlight. The laser diodes are ten times smaller than conventional light-emitting diodes, helping to save space in the headlight unit and also to reduce weight. It will also be the first BMW in the US to offer an innovative display key which features an integrated LCD touch screen.
The person who buys this i8 will have to shell out a bomb of a money. But with the exclusivity factor, we feel that it is worth the money. What do you have to say? Share your opinions through comments below.
