Renault’s KWID has worked wonders for the brand in India, and the company plans to strengthen the model’s footing in India by introducing more variants. The French car maker showcased the Renault KWID 1.0 litre SCe and Renault KWID Easy-R AMT at the Auto Expo 2016 in India. The Kwid 1.0, as the name suggests is a one liter engine powered version of the KWID, while the Easy-R is an AMT auto variant of the small hatchback.
Renault KWID 1.0 SCe gets an all new 1.0 litre DOHC power plant which Renault prefers calling the “Smart Control efficiency Engine”. The brand new new 1.0 litre engine gets an optimized design for better performance. The 4 valves per cylinder and DOHC layout is claimed to offer great performance along with higher efficiency for the car. Low pressure drop and efficient valve lift for a higher air filling allow the engine to make usable power at low, mid and high-end revs bands. The company plans to launch the Kwid 1.0 SCe soon. The tech specs of the engine are not knows yet and will be revealed closer to the launch.
In addition to the new engine, Renault also introduced a new version of the KWID with affordable and convenient AMT technology. The KWID with the Easy-R AMT 5-speed Gear Box will take the fight to the like of the Alto and Celerio AMT. The clutch, free, automated manual transmission on the car will have three modes Reverse, Neutral and Drive, and has been designed for ease of use. The Crawl function helps move forward and backward slowly without any throttle input.
The KWID has been an extremely successful model for Renault for India, and has sold over 100,000 units in a short span of 4 months.
Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said, “At Renault, we are committed to continuous innovation and we are happy to showcase the Renault KWID 1.0 litre SCe and Renault KWID EASY – R, our automated version. We will launch both these versions sometime in the future.”
