Auto Expo 2016: Chevrolet Beat based compact sedan to be shown

In mid 2015, news had surfaced regarding Chevrolet working on the next gen Beat. Some insiders also claimed that along with the next gen Beat, the company was also reportedly working on a compact sedan based on the same platform. This news has now been confirmed and we can indeed hope to have a look at the vehicle during the upcoming Auto Expo 2016. No specification regarding the compact sedan is known yet. However, what we really know is that it shares much of its styling with the next gen Beat. The car will also obviously be a sub – four – metre vehicle to avail the monetary benefits in India.

Confirmation for the engine details will be received only at the Auto Expo itself, but we expect the new Beat-based compact sedan to be powered a family of 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel and petrol engines. The three-cylinder diesel engine is unique to the Indian market, whereas the three-cylinder petrol is essentially a downsized version of the 1.4-litre four-cylinder Ecotech motor from the new Spark. Industry experts believe that both the models – the next gen Beat and the compact sedan, will hit the streets sometime in 2017.

Chevrolet is also likely to showcase the Camaro SS, an iconic muscle car which falls in the same segment as the Ford Mustang. The Camaro is powered by a V8 engine that develops 455 horsepower. A lot of hype has been created around the Mustang and Chevrolet is probably going to just have a close look at the popularity it receives. If the Mustang turns out to be a success, it wouldn’t hurt the company to introduce the Camaro in this market as well.

From among a slew of vehicles slated to be displayed by the company, the highlight will mainly be on the trio mentioned above – the next gen Beat, the compact sedan based on the same platform as the next gen Beat and lastly the Camaro SS.
