We are reporting LIVE from Auto Expo 2014 and the new Mahindra Halo electric sports car has just been unveiled.
As we have been reporting, the Halo electric sports car has been developed by-REVA, the electric mobility division of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M). The Halo is a two door, two seater model and becomes the second sportscar from any Indian manufacturer after the DC Avanti. While the DC Avanti uses a 2.0 liter Ecoboost engine, the Mahindra Halo uses an electric motor.
The Mahindra Halo has been designed by Mahindra REVA’s in-house team, which consists of designers from Pininfarina and Bertone. Mahindra REVA designers have deliberately gone for a more rounded and conventional shape to establish an image of practicality. “We want to convey that the Halo is not just a sports car but an everyday car that’s easy to own and drive” , said a source in Mahindra REVA to Autocar.
Powering the new Mahindra Halo is an electric motor developing approximately 105 KW (140 bhp). As per our sources in the company, the production spec Halo will boast of a power source “similar to the one in the Tesla”. The Halo is expected to dismiss 100kmph from standstill in less than seven seconds.
Mahindra-Reva plans to launch the Halo in both the Indian and international markets. The company will be conducting several market research studies in India and Europe to check customer reactions for an all-electric sports car.
When it goes on sale in 2015-16, the Mahindra Halo will reportedly be priced between 30-35 lakh INR. Stay tuned to Motoroids fro more updates on the Mahindra Halo concept from the Auto Expo 2014.
