The Audi A3 sedan and the Mercedes CLA are two cars that can very well re-define the entry level luxury car market in India. Both these models are set to become the least priced sedans in the product portfolios of their respective car makers. While the manufacturers of these cars are yet to provide a concrete launch date for these vehicles, both these models have already been on sale in some of the markets abroad, and we’ve been closely studying the effect they both have on the sales performance of each other.

Recently, Consumer Reports took a US spec Audi A3 sedan for a drive and realized that the new entry level Audi sedan feels every bit as poised as its bigger siblings. The car scores well in the performance stakes, especially with the 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine that has a max power of 220 hp. Consumer Reports describe the Audi A3 Sedan as more fun to drive and refined than its immediate rival, the Mercedes CLA, which lacks especially in refinement.
While the recent test drive by Consumer Reports does give us a hint of the A3 sedan’s performance, we would like to reserve our comments still we’ve driven both the Mercedes CLA and the Audi A3 Sedan in India.
