Ather Sets Up New Plant in Hosur

Ather Energy, India’s largest EV scooter manufacturer, opened its second manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

The 300,000-square-foot facility will allow the business to increase its production capacity to 420,000 units per year, allowing it to meet the growing demand for its flagship scooters, the Ather 450X, and 450 Plus.

New Plant

Ather’s new manufacturing facility spans 300,000 square feet and comprises two units, one for battery manufacture and the other for vehicle assembly. The battery unit will have five production lines, whereas the vehicle assembly will have two. To fulfill the increased demand for its scooters, the entire plant will have an installed capacity of 420,000 units. The entirely contemporary, state-of-the-art facility is in line with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and will help to strengthen domestic manufacturing in the country. With a strong local ecosystem in place, the majority of Ather Energy’s supplier base is in Tamil Nadu and neighboring Karnataka, making Hosur an ideal location for the factory.

Official Statement

Speaking on the launch of the new plant, Swapnil Jain, Co-Founder & CTO, Ather Energy said, “Rapid scale-up is susceptible to quality issues, and delivering safe and reliable products to our customers is our biggest priority while creating a vision for the plant. With deep investments and innovation done on processes and machines, this plant will help us to further strengthen our leadership in delivering quality vehicles”

In addition, the facility contains energy regeneration testing units at assembly lines and an all-electric material.

Ather Energy intends to grow its retail business by entering new markets. By March 2023, the business intends to have 150 Experience Centers in 100 locations. It has also substantially invested in charging infrastructure in order to deliver a comprehensive experience to the rider community.
