Amidst the fervor, it’s noteworthy that the RS 457 will be the inaugural Aprilia bike to be manufactured in India, specifically at the Baramati plant in Maharashtra. Despite its indigenous production, Aprilia is expected to position this superbike at a premium, potentially pricing it around Rs 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
Design and Power Dynamics
Unveiled ahead of the Bharat GP on September 20, the RS 457 exhibits a sleek design, drawing inspiration from its larger counterpart, the Aprilia RS 660. Its aesthetics are further enhanced by an underbelly exhaust, contributing to its distinctive appearance.
Powering the RS 457 is a formidable 457cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine generating an impressive 47.5PS and 43.5Nm of torque, coupled with a responsive 6-speed gearbox.
Cutting-Edge Features
The RS 457 sets a new standard with its advanced features. An all-LED lighting setup, integrated indicators in the headlight, and a 5-inch TFT instrument console define its modern aesthetic. Offering a dynamic riding experience, the bike includes three riding modes, traction control, and backlit switchgear. Safety is paramount, with four-piston calipers, dual-channel ABS, and Engine maps (AEM) featuring an anti-roll-over system with two maps.
Precision on Wheels
Rolling on 17-inch wheels fitted with 110-section front and 150-section rear TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme tires, the RS 457 combines style with performance. Surprisingly lightweight at 175kg (kerb weight), it stands out in comparison to the KTM RC 390, a smaller, single-cylinder competitor weighing 172kg (kerb).
Facing Competition
In the competitive arena, the twin-cylinder RS 457 directly challenges the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 400. Furthermore, it stands poised for a showdown with the upcoming Yamaha R3, scheduled to launch on December 15th.
