2023 Tata Nexon and Nexon EV: Pricing Starts at Rs 8.10 Lakhs!

Tata Motors has launched the eagerly awaited 2023 Tata Nexon facelift at an introductory price of Rs 8.10 lakh for the base Smart MT variant. This marks the second facelift for the Nexon, following the initial update in 2020. Alongside the Nexon facelift, Tata Motors has also introduced the refreshed Nexon EV, priced at Rs 14.74 lakh (both prices introductory, ex-showroom, India).

The Nexon facelift maintains the 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and the 115hp, 260Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol variant offers the option of a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters), depending on the variant. Tata Motors has adopted a new naming scheme, similar to the Punch model, with trims like Smart, Smart+, Smart+ S, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative+, Creative+ S, Fearless, Fearless S, and Fearless+ S. The ‘+’ denotes optional packages, while ‘S’ signifies the inclusion of a sunroof.

The Nexon facelift introduces a 7-speed DCT with the turbo-petrol variant, promising a more dynamic driving experience. Notable updates also include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen for an enriched infotainment system.

Alongside the ICE Nexon Tata Motors also revealed the pricing of the updated electric version of the Nexon, Dubbed “Nexon.ev”.

The MR variant of the vehicle generates 129 horsepower and 215 Newton-meters of torque, whereas the LR variant produces 145 horsepower and 215 Newton-meters of torque. Notably, while the power outputs have remained consistent, the MR model experiences a reduction in torque by 30Nm, whereas the LR variant sees a decrease of 38Nm. Tata asserts that the LR variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

Nexon.ev also offers three driving modes – Eco, City, and Sport – and is equipped with a four-level brake regeneration system that can be adjusted using the paddle shifters

The Nexon.ev is offered in two variants: MR and LR. The MR variant is equipped with a 30kWh battery, whereas the LR variant features a larger 40.5kWh battery. Interestingly, despite consistent battery sizes, the range has seen an improvement. The MR variant now boasts an ARAI-claimed range of 325km, while the LR variant extends even further to 465km. Both of these figures represent an increase of 12km compared to previous specifications.

Redesigned Exterior: Drawing Inspiration from Curvv and Harrier EV Concepts

The design of the Nexon facelift is inspired by the futuristic Curvv and Harrier EV concepts. It showcases a split-headlamp arrangement with the headlights housed in a distinctive trapezoidal structure on the bumper. Sequential LED daytime running lights (DRLs) grace the top section. A sleek upper grille connects the DRLs, displaying the Tata Motors emblem. The lower portion of the bumper features a robust bar housing the license plate. Additionally, the facelift boasts refreshed 16-inch alloy wheels and a seamless full-width LED light bar linking the tail-lights, while the reverse light has been relocated to the bumper.

Rivals and Market Competition

The Nexon ICE facelift competes with a range of formidable rivals, including the Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite in the fiercely competitive Indian compact SUV segment.

Meanwhile, Tata Nexon.ev goes up against the Mahindra XUV 400 which is priced slightly higher than the Nexon.ev.
