2023 Hyundai Verna – What To Expect?

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is all set to launch the updated version of the Hyundai Verna on Mar 21. Here’s what you can expect to see in this new sedan.

Bigger Dimensions

The all-new Hyundai Verna will be bigger in size than the outgoing version. While the dimensions are not officially announced, you can expect the car to be more spacious and have a bigger boot as well. It will be the widest at 1,765 mm, will have a length of 4,535 mm, and will stand 1,475 mm tall. It will also get the longest wheelbase in the segment coming in at 2,670 mm.

Powertrain

The new Hyundai Verna is bidding goodbye to the diesel engine. However, it will be available in two petrol options. The 1.5 L naturally aspirated engine produces 115 PS and 144 Nm peak torque. This will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed CVT. The 1.5 L turbo produces 164 PS and 253 Nm peak torque and will be mated to a seven-speed DCT transmission. As of now, it is unclear if the turbo variant will get a six-speed manual transmission. Needless to say, these engines will be RDE compliant and will be ready for E20 blended fuel.

Exterior

The all-new Hyundai Verna gets a complete design overhaul. From the teaser images, we can tell that it looks more sporty with sharp character lines and elements. The front gets a connected LED DRL and LED headlamps. The fog lamps seem to be missing. The side gets character lines much like the Hyundai Tucson. The 15-inch diamond cut alloys are also redesigned. The rear gets a new pair of LED tail lamps and a connected LED strip that runs across the boot. This is becoming a signature for all new Hyundai cars.

ADAS

The 2023 Hyundai Verna will be the second sedan in the segment to offer ADAS features. The first one is the Honda City which was launched a couple of weeks earlier. The level-2 ADAS suite will include, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warning, high-beam assist, etc. A total of 17 features will be available using Hyundai SmartSense. We have seen most of these features in action on the Hyundai Tucson as well.

Safety

Hyundai has been focussing on safety and is offering a lot of safety features as standard across variants. Some of the highlights include Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPMS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-Start Assist, Electronic Parking brake, etc.

Interior

The new Verna is getting an interior overhaul as well. The dashboard layout will be completely new with a 10.25-inch HD infotainment display and a fully digital TFT MID. The infotainment system will be paired to an 8-speaker Bose audio system. Another first-in-segment feature is the presence of ventilated as well as heated seats.

Pricing and Competition

The Hyundai Verna is expected to be priced between ₹11 L to ₹18 L. Bookings for the sedan are already open.

As for the competition, the Verna will go up against the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia. While the latter do not get ADAS, the Honda City is the only other option if you are looking for a sedan with ADAS features.
