Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz India unveiled the facelifted Mercedes-Benz A-class in June. Now the it is all set to be launched in India on December 8. Launched in 2013, the A-Class is the smallest offering in the Mercedes-Benz line-up and will be Mercedes Benz India’s 15th launch this year.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz A-Class facelift has received subtle style and tech-mech upgrades over its outgoing version. The premium compact car will continue with its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, and the 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel engines as on the current A-Class. Therefore similar power figures might be carried forward from the previous A-Class, the petrol engine will generate a power of 120 hp and 200 Nm of torque, and the diesel will spout out 134 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The power will be pushed to the wheels by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which also gets the launch assist. The car will also feature the ECO display in the instrument cluster that analyses individual driving styles and provides specific tips to improve fuel efficiency.
On the visual front the A-Class gets redesigned front and rear bumpers, revised grille, optional LED headlights, reworked LED bands in its taillights and will drive on new alloy wheel patterns. The facelifted A-Class has received substantial upgrades on the inside. The car features a new multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel. The new dashboard design is drawn from the GLA/CLA class and features new materials and colours for a fresh console decor.
The centre console houses an updated infotainment system and gets an optional 8-inch display with feature smartphone integration including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink COMAND navigation. New upholstery, instrument cluster, and ambient lighting with twelve colours and five dimming levels also sum up to the host of new interior upgrades.
Apart from the new features and styling updates, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz A-Class facelift will also get a new codification for the diesel variant, It will be called A 200 D instead of 200 CDI. Previously Mercedes-Benz revealed the petrol, CDI, Motorsport Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic versions of the A-Class but India will receive only the petrol and diesel versions. The A-Class is also expected to roll out in a powerful version of its existing petrol powermill.
Like the outgoing A-Class, the 2016 facelift version will hit the Indian shores through CBU as of now. The plan for local production of the car is on the way, but it will not lower of price of the A-Class. As for now the new A Class petrol is priced from around INR 25 lakhs and the A Class diesel starts from INR 26 lakhs (prices ex-showroom Mumbai).
