We reported in detail when the social media page of Mercedes Benz recently released a sketch of the upcoming Mercedes GLA Class concept that will make its public debut at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show in just two days. Now, Mercedes has officially revealed the all new GLA Concept by releasing a set of pics of the new concept car.
Following this concept model will be the production spec car that will debut in a few months. The Mercedes GLA is in line with the new strategy by Mercedes Benz through which it plans to launch a slew of new cars that would enable the manufacturer to re-claim the lost territory from BMW and Audi.
The Mercedes GLA will act as the baby brother to the bigger GLK Class and will rival the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3, both of which have met with great success.
The upcoming breed of cars from Mercedes Benz has been developed keeping in mind developing markets like that of India. The Mercedes GLA looks every bit a modern and sophisticated Compact SUV and boasts of the latest design language of Mercedes Benz cars. Unlike the Mercs of yore, which looked a tad rigid, the latest crop of Mercs, including the GLA, looks much more dynamic and chic.
The new GLA Class does look like a meaner version of the new A-Class but it won’t matter as long as the production spec GLA manages to look as suave and contemporary as the concept model does. Underpinning the GLA is the much publicized Mercedes’ MFA platform that can also be found supporting the new A Class. The production spec GLA will borrow the wheelbase from the A Class.
The 2014 Mercedes GLA Concept measures 4.38 meters in length, 1.97 meters in width and 1.5 metres in height. The car will have a wheelbase of 2.69 meters and will have a boot space of 500 litres. The front end of the car comes with a really mean look that has a big grille, stylish sweptback headlamps and a bulging hood. Adding to the athletic look of the car is the raked windscreen, chrome skid plate and huge air dams.
On the side, the car sports well pronounced wheel arches, stylish roof rails with LED fixtures and 20-inch alloys which ride on 255/45 R20 tire.
At the rear, giving the car a sporty look is the dual chrome exhaust, stylish LED tail lamps, a roof mounted rear spoiler and a faux skid plate.
On the inside, the car gets a futuristic looking interior that is line with the latest interior concepts from Mercedes Benz and comes draped in high quality materials along with having a truck load of gizmos.
