2013 Hyundai Santa Fe India Launch in mid 2013

There are no two ways about the fact that Hyundai has been very successful in India. The South Korea based car maker has been responsible for giving many sleepless nights to MSIL, the leading car maker in our car market. We have always felt that Hyundai has really come of age in recent years and no longer is the car maker at the butt end of every car joke.

Back in our market, the Santro can very well be credited with providing a firm base to the Korean car maker. While the tall boy is no longer giving a tough time to Maruti hatchbacks, the i10, i20 and Verna have been among the leaders of their respective segments.

The Upper C segment is where the success of Hyundai India has been limited to. Apart from the mild success that the Hyundai Terrecan, Tucson and the fourth gen Sonata tasted during the initial days of Hyundai India, the car maker has pretty much failed to leave a lasting mark on the high end car market. The earlier generation of the Santa Fe has been in our country since some time now but it has been overshadowed by the ‘all-conquering’ Toyota Fortuner. To make matters worse, the car’s styling is nothing to write home about.

We have been eagerly waiting for the 2013 Santa Fe Crossover to make it to our car market and have already posted in detail about the new Korean SUV.

The 2013 Santa Fe is available with a range of engine options that include two petrol engines- a 2 Litre turbocharged and a 2.4 Liter naturally aspirated motor and a 2.2 litre diesel engine. All these engines are mated to a 6 speed automatic ‘box.

Our sources tell us that the 2013 Santa Fe would hit Indian market in mid 2013 and would come to us via CKD route.

We can talk in detail about Hyundai’s Storm Edge design language that features on the new Santa Fe. The Storm Edge is the successor of the Fluidic design language. The styling on the latest Hyundai cars is definitely a far cry from the older Hyundais whose styling can be best described as insipid. The Storm Edge will be soon replaced by Fluidic Precision and the future seems bright for the styling of Hyundai cars.

On the inside, the car boasts of a very eye catchy dashboard design and usage of rich materials. From the looks of it, the interiors of the new car seem to be a pretty cosseting and are loaded with gizmos.

We are already drooling over the prospect of having this car on sale in India. What do you have to say? Do you like the new Santa Fe?
